Apps & Books token

This token connects VN-MDM to the app-license pool in Apple Business Manager, so you can assign apps in bulk without an Apple Account on each device.

This token does not enroll a device. A device enrolls with a manual link or ADE. Both paths are described on Apple Business Manager.

Settings → Apple → Apps & Books (VPP). The Open Apps & Books button opens the app catalog.

The top block is where you upload a new token. The block below is a token you already have: Active, asset count, expiry, and the latest sync. Sync licenses pulls the license counts again.

Get the token from Apple and upload it

  1. In Apple Business Manager: Preferences → Payments and Billing → Apps and Books. Download the token for the location you want to connect. The file ends in .vpptoken.

  2. On this page, drop the file on Choose a file, then click Upload token.

  3. A row appears under Content tokens, Status Active. Each token is one location in Apple Business Manager.

Sync licenses updates how many licenses remain. Live updates means license changes keep arriving without uploading the file again each time.

Removing the token stops that location’s licenses from syncing. Apps already installed on devices are not deleted just because you removed the token.

Common questions

The token is there, but the app still has no license count?
The app must be purchased or assigned at the same location as that token. Click Sync licenses, then open Apps and Sync from ABM.
What if the token expires?
Download a new token from Apple Business Manager and Upload token again before the Expires date on the token row.
