Device groups
A group assigns the same profiles, policies, and apps to many devices, instead of doing it one device at a time.
When to use thisYou have a set of iPhones that share a way of working, for example sales phones or one department’s phones.
Devices → Device groups.

Create a group and add devices
Click New group. Enter a name and a description, then save.
Click the group row, or … then Manage members, to add or remove devices.
Group defaults in the … menu is what the group pushes to devices in it: profiles, policies, and apps. A device that joins the group receives them. A device that leaves the group loses what it received from that group.
Besides group defaults, organization-wide defaults live on Defaults. The two stack. One does not overwrite the other.
Delete removes the group from the list. It does not erase data on the device. The device loses configuration that was attached only to that group.
Common questions
- Can one device be in several groups?
- Yes. The device receives the combined assignments of every group it belongs to.
- Should an iOS group also contain Macs?
- Web Clip is only for iPhone and iPad. A mixed group means the Mac will not receive that profile. Keep iPhone/iPad groups and Mac groups separate. An Android policy on a group keeps only one copy: assigning a new one replaces the old one on that group. See Android policies. Windows profiles stack. See Windows profiles.
