Profiles that sign in-house apps

A provisioning profile is a file Apple issues so a device can run a company-built app. It is not a Wi-Fi profile.

When to use thisYou have an enterprise .ipa and the .mobileprovision file that goes with it.

Settings → Apple → Provisioning profiles.

Empty Provisioning profiles page, Import profile button
With no files yet, the page shows No provisioning profiles. Import profile puts a .mobileprovision file in the catalog.

Steps

  1. Click Import profile and choose the signed .mobileprovision file.

  2. Install it on one device from the Send command box on that device’s page, using the install provisioning profile command. Remove it with the remove provisioning profile command on each device.

Deleting a row in the catalog does not remove a file already installed on a device. Remove it on the device first if you do not want the old signing profile to remain.

Putting the app file in the catalog is the job of Apps, under Enterprise app. An App Store app does not need this file — it goes through the license token.
